Fall Gardening 101

New gardeners/home owners don’t realize that gardening is an all season hobby. The gardening tasks and the appearance are very different throughout the year.

Here are some tasks that you should consider doing for your garden maintenance during the fall:
1. Stop trimming and fertilizing so your plants can go to sleep.
2. Divide and move any perennial plants to fill in holes in your garden or better yet fill the holes with spring bulbs.
3. Cut back your perennials that are done blooming or look diseased.
4. If your going to plant any shrubs or trees consider doing it sooner than later
5. Pick your herbs for drying or freezing. Or if you really love the plants transplant them in a pot for indoor use over the summer.
6. Don’t leave any fallen foliage that are diseased as mulch or you are just end up having a much more widespread issue next season
7. Remove any dead branches from the property

Now that we have created a great fall “honey to-do list”... better get cracking before it gets too cold and makes maintenance unpleasant instead of peaceful
